A new documentary, “A Teacher’s Shoes: Celebrating the heart and soul of education,” produced by the NIU College of Education’s Morgridge Endowed Chair Office, in partnership with the NIU Foundation, debuted on November 12, 2025, at a special screening and panel discussion at NIU’s Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center.

The film features two of its alumnae, who D428 is proud to have as educators in our classrooms. Ashley Manor, a math teacher at DeKalb High School, and Dominique Yackley, a 5th-grade teacher at Founders Elementary, were chosen to take part in "A Teacher’s Shoes,” a compelling new short documentary that offers a powerful look at a single day in the life of three NIU College of Education graduates. Also featured in the film is Grace DeSmedt, a physical education and health teacher from Oswego.
NIU shares, "The film follows their journey from home to the classroom and beyond, highlighting their dedication and the profound impact they make, allowing viewers to walk alongside these passionate educators as they navigate challenges, spark curiosity, and leave lasting imprints on their students and communities." The film offers viewers an inside look into what drives them and what motivates them to keep inspiring students, reaffirming why great teachers matter so much to our students and their futures.
Congratulations to Ashley and Dominique for being a part of this inspirational project and for this special recognition for the excellence they bring to their classrooms on behalf of their students, families, and colleagues.
